Here’s a Camping Guide You Need Before Visiting Croatia

Your plans for the summer holiday in Croatia are done and now, it’s time to pack some camping essential items before you leave! Gone with the cold and bleak days of winter because it’s all about preparing for the summer break. Summer is a great time to rejuvenate the mind and body, no matter if you are young or old. What better way to anticipate the arrival of this hot season than a road trip to Croatia!

A summer holiday in Croatia is popular among Europeans thanks to the country’s year-long sunshine and magnificent coastal towns. The country is also very well connected making it easy to drive around different regions and find the magic of each location. Croatia is also home to the ever-popular region of Istria which is home to breathtaking nature, making it ideal for camping enthusiasts. Your summer holiday in Croatia might look like a camping trip or perhaps you’re taking your RV with you. You might even bike your way across Europe and rest in a canopy, which you can definitely do at Camp Diana.  No matter how you get to Croatia, these are the camping essential items we recommend you bring before arriving.

ID Please!

Although some European Union countries accept driver’s licenses as a form of identification, such as the Netherlands, it is highly recommended that you bring your national identification (ID) card and passport with you. Despite Schengen rules, at times, there is individual enforcement of border restrictions by some countries which can happen at any time. This makes it even more essential to include ID documents as part of our camping essential items. As a precaution, it is best that you bring your ID card and passport even if you are an EU citizen and/or resident. The last thing you want to happen is to be rejected at the border after having made a long journey from home. Don’t ruin your summer holiday in Croatia over ID problems!

Comfort is Everything

A summer holiday in Croatia is beautiful and sunny, but it can also be extremely hot. Although our campsite provides sufficient shade against the blistering summer heat, you might not want to spend all your time inside your tent or RV. With the sounds of birds chirping and the gentle sway of leaves and trees, it is an incredibly serene experience to dine out or simply be in nature. As such, bring comfortable sitting or lounging chairs, or your favorite sleeping bag with you where you can be fully immersed in the sights, sounds, and smells of Mother Nature. Since it can become very hot during peak summer and much cooler (and wetter!) in September and October, be sure to include weather-appropriate clothing in your camping essential items.

Laundry Time

A summer holiday in Croatia can become particularly hot during the summer which means you’re going to sweat a lot so bring your laundry line or racks. You won’t have to worry about the weather because the heat will dry your clothes in no time. At Camp Diana, we have wash basins where you can wash your clothes although drying will be your prerogative. You can, of course, hang a laundry line between two trees or bring a foldable laundry rack, which many of our guests have often done. If you have to wash bulkier items such as towels, there is a nearby laundry mat near the Petrol gas station. Doing the laundry is an integral part of not just adulthood, but also the camping experience so check that laundry pegs or foldable laundry racks are part of your camping essential items before you set off for your vacation.

Summertime wellness

The sun will grace you with numerous good days during your summer holiday in Croatia, but nevertheless, you cannot predict unexpected circumstances. Always bring your medicine and a first aid kit to anticipate possible cuts or ailments, particularly for individuals who must consume prescribed medication. The Pula General Hospital is quite busy during the summer and there is always the potential added hassle of obtaining a prescription medication from a Croatian doctor. Skip the hassle because you’re on vacation! Bring all the medical camping essential items for you and your family before you head out the door. There is a pharmacy/’apotek’ in front of the Konzum grocery store in Banjole so in case you need an ibuprofen; you can still purchase it during your stay.

Summer games

You can expect to undertake a more nature-oriented or touristy-oriented summer holiday in Croatia, especially here in Pula and Istria. Istria has stunning nature from its wild forests and idyllic biking terrain to its beloved Adriatic coastline. Most campsites are surrounded by nature but don’t worry, you’ll always have an internet connection! On days when you only want to be at the campsite, you’re going to need some games, such as board games or cards to spend the slower days in peace. You can certainly always swap these camping essential items for games on smartphones. At Camp Diana, we provide selected board games and cards as well as numerous sports activities. We have sports equipment ready for basketball, tennis, badminton, and table tennis/ping pong which our guests can use free of charge. If you have your favorite tennis racket of basketball, then bring it with you!

Spring will soon come and before you know it, it will be time for your summer holiday in Croatia to commence! From history to nature to sports, Croatia offers an all-encompassing tourist experience for everyone. Campers have a particular advantage as they will experience a bit of the Mediterranean lifestyle that is about the sun and the sea. Most Croatians often say that they have the sun and the sea and that is all they need. As you wait a bit longer to explore the relaxing Croatian life, you’ll find ample time to plan ahead for your trip and ensure all camping essential items will be packed in the car before you leave in a couple months. Bring your must-haves and favorite items because summer is the perfect time to do the things that bring you joy.
